Boerhaaves Syndrome




It is due to forceful vomiting but leads to esophageal perforation

there is severe , Epigastric and restrosternal pain , sudden in onset

Contrast swallow - gastrograffin is diagnostic

treatment - surgical repair

well difference between iatrogentic and Boerhaaves syndrome is -

Iatrogenic - endoscopy  is most common cause of esophagel injury which has  less complications - reason being , the patient will be nil per orally before endoscopy which is planned electively , hence there is less chance of mediastinits 

Boerhaaves syndrome - Mediastitis have grave consequneces if delayed in treatment
