Appendicitis

The vermiform appendix which is present only in humans and apes , which is blind ending muscular tube at distal end of caecum .


  • Retrocaecal is the most common position 
  • classic Murphy triad is almost diagnostic - Pain - vomiting - fever occur in same sequence 
  • appendicular perforation is more common in elderly and children this is because atherosclerosis of small vessels in elderly and narrow lumen in children . Hence early diagnosis and management is required in children as delay in diagnosis lead to peritonitis
